How long does it take to get a vehicle to Jamaica?
From confirmation to arrival at Kingston Wharves typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.
A typical timeline:
- ~1 week in the UK — vehicle collection, Pre-Shipment Inspection, Trade Board documents, export prep
- ~2–3 weeks at sea (RoRo shipping to Kingston)
- Vehicle arrives at Kingston Wharves — you then handle customs clearance, registration, and onward transport
Shipping schedules and port timing can occasionally cause delays, which is why we quote 4–6 weeks.
How much do I pay to start the process?
For now we require a 25% deposit to secure the vehicle, then the rest is paid in stages as the process progresses.
Do I need a Trade Board permit?
Yes. All used vehicle imports require a Trade Board of Jamaica import permit before the vehicle can be shipped. You apply for this permit — it can be done via jswift.gov.jm and typically takes around 3 working days. We provide all the export documents you need to complete the application.
Is there an age limit for importing vehicles into Jamaica?
Yes. The age limit for used passenger cars is 6 years from the date of manufacture—this is a hard cap enforced by the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA), effective November 2019.
Do I need a customs broker in Jamaica?
Yes. Once your vehicle arrives at Kingston Wharves, a licensed customs broker handles clearance on your behalf — paying duties, submitting documentation to JCA, and releasing the vehicle to you. This is standard practice for all vehicle imports in Jamaica.
Why might I see Wyoming or a US location online?
You may see Wyoming online because the business registration or admin setup can use a Wyoming address for simpler company handling and operations. That does not mean the vehicles are in Wyoming or that the import is handled from Wyoming.
For Jamaica customers, Carcay operates through UK-based sourcing, inspection, and export support for vehicles shipped to Kingston. The Wyoming registration/admin setup is separate from the actual UK export and Jamaica import process.
